Hi! I'm new( Anyone have any tips for a beginner in Anthro Comics?)

Hello. I've been drawing Anthro Art for years. (Well to be exact I've been drawin these five Foxes The Royal Sisters for years, I've only just started moving onto other animals.) I've got my own little world and I write about it in a story called the Chronicles of Lowerground. Although this isn't a Fiction Community it's an art one so here is what I have to share.

Here’s my Deviant Art Page Prowler-Wolf

The most recent Costume design of Princess Tasha. (My main Character and the closest thing I have to a Fursona)
Front
Back
And her eldest son
The newer additons to the Royal Sisters Family

However what I am desperate for feedback for is my WIP comic. I have never posted a comic up on the net before and I want to make sure I do this right, so any tips for improving this before I Finish inking and colouring would be a very big help.

Page 1 - Don’t encourage him!
Page 2 - I’m game
Page 3 - Game on
Page 4 - Game over
Page 5 - Hopeless (There is a royal family gag on this page, sorry if it causes any offence)
Page 6 - Have to go back
Page 7 - AHHHhhheee!!!
Page 8 - Kylouzn
Page 9 - Cute...

Thank you.

I am most impressed with what you have shared. Though, as you have said, you have not finished inking and coloring, what you have so far is very cleanly done. I also like your sense of clothing design very much.

I sadly have very little experience with the creation of comics, though I have had a growing appreciation for them as an art form, furry comics in particular.^_^

With respect to improvement, I did notice that some of the text was faint, and thus a little difficult to read.

I am not sure whether you have seen many furry comics; in case you have not, if you like, I would be honored to post you some links to some that I have found to be rather well-made and fun.

I hope this has helped, and I look forward to reading more of your comics in the future. ^_^
Thank you very much for the praise. Particularly on the clothes, it took me a while to come up with a style that I was happy with.

I love reading comics and manga, and I’ve seen some Tutorials that the writers/artists have put up on the web, but these are more to do with their style of drawing than finding your own style. This comic has spring from the story that I have been writing that I am thinking about turning into a comic as well as a written story. I am using this smaller comic to learn.

I am not too happy with the text myself. (The lack of speech bubbles annoy me, but I can’t put them in until I finish the pages) But you are the first to actually mention that it was hard to read. Thank you for letting me know I’ll try to make it clearer from now on.

I used to read a furry comic called Satin and Silk, (a pair of skunks) I however lost the link and the comic is probably finished of inactive now. There is the Harvesters comic, but it hasn’t got very far yet, and is quite gory. (Which isn’t always a bad thing but I though I should warn you.)
I do read other web-comics but I haven’t seen many furry ones. If you post some links to the ones you read I’ll post links to the ones I read. ^_^

You have been very helpful. You’re the first person to give me some Criticism and although I love the praise (And would love more because I’m greedy)no one can’t really improve with out some decent Criticism.

(PS Page 10 To cute to die is up XD )
Hello.^_^

Here are a few comics that I have enjoyed immensely:

As for "The Harvesters", I must admit that while it is violent, it is very well-drawn.

I hope you enjoy the comics I have posted, and look forward to seeing the links you send.

Thank you.^_^
The Harvisters is what happens when someone who has had their art stolen one to many times or has had to put up with to many stupid comments, and nasty flames for too long meet up with other artists who had suffered the same. They have a LJ community and everything, I would join but
One, they aren’t accepting new members right now,
Two, I don’t think I’m angry enough.
Three, I can’t draw blood. XD

Oh my goodness! Thank you SO much for reuniting me with Tiffany Ross’s work!. *hugs*!!!
Apart from the obvious My little pony, Bucky O’Hare, and TMHT, she was the first anthro influence I had.
Digger and ‘Mab + Dan’s furry adventures” looks promising, and Kevin and Kel looks funny.
I love what little I’ve seen of Creature, keeper of the Vortron. I wish I had time to read them all now, but I’m going on hoilday next week and I’m still trying to get everything ready.

I guess it’s time for my comics now then. ^_^

These comics are about the Drow, a kind of dark elf. They are very violent, and have different moral values to us, the comics reflect this.
Drowtales - I would say you need a very open mind to read this, there are also a lot of side comics, most of which have died. A few of the working ones are:
Spiderborn (A small completed story and apart from the main character’s questionable tastes in clothes [spider-silk dresses] I would say its safe) Oh and the girl’s boyfriend is a giant spider.
Rebirth Another Gore warning, I think it’s something almost all the Drow tales comics have in common.
The longest Wait Yet another Gore warning on a few of the more current pages
There is also one called Breach of Faith which I stopped reading after getting squicked by it. >_<

Now for some nicer ones.

Emerald Winter Yay an elf comic with out blood!
Fallen Very pretty but very slow updating
Earthsong No Anthros really although there is a goat man and a Gargoyle/dragon girl, Artist is currently on hoilday but there are some great guest strips.
Inverloch One anthro like character in this one, and he’s SO cute, makes you want to hug him. ^_^
Pyrrhicon Very pretty, black and white manga like comic. (Finally a proper Anthro Comic. ^_^) I think it’s going to have a sad ending however.

*looks over list.* Wow, I never knew I read so many violent comics. ^^;
Excellent art, but I have to criticize the text: You need an editor. If there's something that turns me off a goodany webcomic, it's horrible writing. Aside from the obvious tips (spel&gram), I have a few tips for you:
1 - If you're going to use colored text, avoid anything bright, especially if you vary the text color per source.
2 - Changing the background color in bubbles works a lot better than changing the text color. Trust me. Black and white text colors work very, very well. You can also try changing the font: http://lupinia.us/houserules/archive/2005/october/om20051026-c.htm
3 - Plan ahead with your text. Your current pages look... well, the text is crammed. Try to get a flow on your text rather than fitting it whereever it'll go. Remember that you can move characters around and make space for text, and that you can place text over (especially using bubbles).
4 - Despite what I've said above, bubbles aren't always required, nor do you need to use them at all. They just work. http://www.ozyandmillie.org/2006/om20060719.html
5 - Use a smaller font, you'll have more space. I see you've taken a sans-serif font, which was a good choice -- it makes it easier to read.
6 - Since you're using per-source coloring, your narrator should have a different color (Page 5); However, I suggest against introducing your characters in the fashion that you did there - it doesn't flow well, and it just attempts to ram depth where there isn't any yet. Introduce relevant character traits as you go along. Readers don't even need to know a character's name when they pop up -- in fact, I've read webcomics where the author got away with leaving characters nameless for several strips!

I suggest taking a look at O&M and O&M House Rules, if only for getting ideas.

And finally, don't get me wrong - It's a good start.

Sadly you're right my writing is very weak, I'm slightly dyslexic which is the main reason behind it, but I should have known better and asked someone to proof read it for me. ^^;

If you're going to use coloured text, avoid anything bright, especially if you vary the text color per source

I have since decided to only use black and white text coloured text looks great on the Drowtales comics but I decided to try and make things easier on myself. I'm also going to use a different art program so the text won't look so fuzzy.

Ah, yes, I was pretty much throwing the comic together as it came to me. I've since put the comic on hiatus and started writing a scrip for it. Which I am also going to send to my beta reader (She helps me with the main story that this comic was branching off from)

And finally, don't get me wrong - It's a good start.

Don't worry the whole point of the comic was to get comments and advice like this. ^_^ Thank you!

Oy, how unfortunate. Dyslexia is not easy to deal with, I hear.
I could proofread your comic, if you like.

Yes, it does look good on Drowtales - note, however, that they're using bubbles/boxes, and that makes a difference. I'm not saying you shouldn't use colored text at all - just that having a steady background (or foreground) color for the text is a really, really good idea.

I'm also going to use a different art program so the text won't look so fuzzy.
What are you using at the moment, and what will you use?

I've since put the comic on hiatus and started writing a scrip for it.
A splendid idea, though not always necessary.

And thank you, too, for the time and patience you've put into this. I can see that with some work, you can turn this into a good comic. :>
